Empathy Day The Empathys Award Ceremony


  • Red carpet celebration event on Empathy Day
  • Invited guests: community leaders, librarians, Governors, parents, authors
  • Pupils have different roles - compère, reporter, photographer, blogger, audience
  • Pupils present arguments for shortlisted characters’ brief summary of the arguments for each character
  • Display of all the books on stage with one of the pupils who championed the character from the book
  • Compère announces winner
  • Acceptance speeches (pupils could prepare this in advance once the votes are counted and read on behalf of the winning character or a child could take the role)
  • Lots of photographs, video, selfies
  • Winner publicised: local media, school newsletters
  • Let author/publisher know, tag them on Social Media)
  • Let Empathy Lab know the winner

 

Follow up Empathy Day – social action


  • Hold discussion with participating pupils, school council etc.
  • Pupils choose cause associated with winning character or  decide the cause the character would fight for.
  • Pupils research the cause and plan a year of social action in school named after the character.
  • Everyone pledges to do one thing in the spirit of the character
  • Collective action planned for the year
