Developing an empathy focus across the publishing industry

We are delighted that so many publishers are joining our book-based empathy movement. 38 children’s publishers belong to our internationally unique Empathy Builders scheme. Our joint aim is to reach over one million children a year by 2026. This powerful partnership is underpinned by the pledges in an important Empathy Manifesto, drawn up in 2019 by nine early adopter publishers. Publishers in the Empathy Builders scheme work with us in different ways: 

  • Amplify and benefit from our national empathy campaigns, especially the Empathy Day Festival
  • Attend quarterly inspiring briefings, meeting other members of the community, and planning next campaign steps
  • Nominate authors for our acclaimed author and illustrator masterclasses. Hear Jion Sheibani on the benefits of these, click here
