Empathy Day Award Ceremony

• Red carpet celebration event on Empathy Day
• Invited guests: community leaders, librarians, Governors, parents, authors
• Children have different roles - compère, reporter, photographer, blogger, audience
• Children present arguments for shortlisted characters
• Display of all the books on stage
• Compère announces winner
• Acceptance speeches (teacher could prepare this in advance once the votes are counted and read on behalf of the winning character or a child could take the role)
• Lots of photographs, video, selfies
• Winner publicised: local media, school newsletters
• Let author/publisher know, tag them on Social Media
• Let Empathy Lab know the winner

Follow up Empathy Day – social action

• Hold class discussion
• Children choose cause associated with winning character or decide the cause the character would fight for
• Year of social action in school named after the character
• Everyone pledges to do one thing in the spirit of the character
• Collective action planned for the year
