Activity

 Empathy Day briefing

1-hour online briefing giving an (embargoed) insight into the Empathy Day programme

School initiates the nomination process and plans the Awards Ceremony

1: Children continue to explore the books/characters that they might nominate

2: School plans the Empathy Award event

1: April nominations process for Empathy Awards begins (could be done as home/school Easter holidays activity).

Children nominate the characters that show exceptional empathy: This can be done by:

  • Each class nominates a character
  • Individual children nominate characters
  • Year groups each nominating a number of characters

We suggest a shortlist of 6-10 characters

(if you receive lots of nominations you may have to set up a selection panel – e.g. school council or panel of teachers or panel of parents or governors). Shortlist announced

in an assembly or special event (late April or early May).

2: Introduce children to Empathy Award roles and invite them to apply

3: Select children for roles- compère, reporter, photographer, blogger etc

4: Pupils plan to campaign for their character and date set for the vote

5: Plan for Empathy Day
