The final steps in this phase are to:
• Build your empathy focus into your school development plan
• Create an EmpathyLab action plan. At secondary level this should include relevant key department plans.
• Begin to choose personnel for a working party and create a meeting structure and schedule.
This is particularly vital in larger Primary schools or a Secondary phase school.
Many schools we work with make empathy one of their key development priorities. Others weave it into existing priorities. Some integrate it into their vision, values and performance management system.
The important thing is that it is prominent in your school improvement work and is shared with the wider community
of critical friends , governors, learning partners, challenge advisors.
Finally, the SLT and EmpathyLab Lead need to complete an action plan mapping desired impacts, key actions, milestones and implementation timelines. At secondary level it is important that departmental and
Areas of Learning Experience plans feed into the overall action plan.
Feed in any relevant findings from the two audits, especially when addressing the desired outcomes.
To complete your plan, you will need to consult the next handbook Phases.
Examples of action plans from other schools are available and this is something your EmpathyLab consultant can
also help you with.
