The Empathy Circle is a group of publishers that guides EmpathyLab’s work with the book industry, helping increase Empathy Day’s impact and supporting pilots such as the now established Author Empathy Masterclasses.

The group came together to back the growth of Empathy Day as a new way to maximise the empathy-building potential of books.

Publishers in the Empathy Circle are: Andersen Press, Bloomsbury, Bonnier Books, Hachette, Macmillan, Penguin Random House Children’s, Nosy Crow, Usborne, and Walker Books.

Their Manifesto was launched at The Bookseller's 2021 Children's conference, with the press release available here. It has eight pledges which will underpin a three-year plan to drive change.

The publishers' Manifesto commitment to increased empathy-building strategies range from inspiring partners’ participation in Empathy Day to staff and author training in the science of empathy.

The pledges can be seen below and in full here.
