For younger children
- have a competition for the snazziest glasses – the winners could be gifted a book
- when reading stories, put on your glasses as a physical reminder to consider the story from the character’s perspective – what do you see through their eyes?
- Display your glasses around your Empathy Bookshelf
For older children and young people
- instead of wearing the glasses, display them as a reminder to consider different perspectives
- when reading, discuss perspectives for a range of different characters – this works well with non-fiction, e.g. historic sources or political viewpoints
- you might wish to consider how books and films use perspective differently – whose perspective does the writer or filmmaker show you? How different would it be seen from another character’s perspective?
